History
On a cold Ottawa winter morning in December 2004, Professor Herb Stovel (School of Canadian Studies - Heritage Conservation, Carleton University) organized an informal gathering between his good friend and colleague Francois LeBlanc (Head, Field Projects - Getty Conservation Institute) and his first year Heritage Conservation graduate students. Mr. LeBlanc exposed those students in attendance with colourful recounts of his varied adventuress within the Heritage field. Dubbed as the 'next, next, next' generation of heritage professionals, these wide-eyed graduate students looked to Mr. LeBlanc for advice on how to make a positive contribution in advancing the field. Informed that a successful transition from current heritage professionals to the next generation involved passion and the need to be pro-active, several graduate students left that informal meeting with a will and a passion to positively change the heritage world.
Over the course of several months, these graduate students gave birth to NOGHAP (Next Generation of Heritage and Associated Professionals) and worked tirelessly to get the message on bridging the gap across different Heritage circles. From ICOMOS Canada's 2005 Annual Conference to Herb Stovel's Heritage Symposium (2005) to Heritage Canada Foundation's Heritage Day (2006), NOGHAP has garnered tremendous support and momentum.
With this growing support, visibility and momentum, NOGHAP is committed to expanding its network and fulfilling our mandate with our heritage colleagues across Canada.
